Description

Vegan Mapo Tofu recipe is a tantalizing dance of spicy, savory, and downright irresistible goodness. Imagine succulent bites of tofu, bathed in a rich, aromatic sauce that's like a party in your mouth.

Ingredients
  • 400 gr tofu
  • 1/2 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 stalk green onion
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp mushroom bouillon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • A dash of sugar
  • Sesame seed for garnish
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Water
  • Sauce
  • 1 tbsp gochujang
  • 1 tsp vegan oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp kashmiri chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp vinegar
  • A dash of blackpepper
Instructions
  1. Begin by combining all the sauce ingredients in a bowl. Give it a good stir and set it aside for later use.

  2. Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces according to your preference.

  3. In a pan, add oil and sauté finely chopped onions and crushed garlic until wilted.

  4. Add the ginger paste and cook until the raw aroma dissipates.

  5. Pour water into the pan and add the previously prepared sauce. Mix well.

  6. Add the tofu into the flavorful mixture and adjust the seasoning to your liking.

  7. Create a mixture of water and cornstarch to achieve the desired thickness. Then pour it to the pan. Mix well.

  8. Once the dish reaches the perfect consistency, turn off the heat.

  9. Sprinkle with fresh green onions, sesame seeds and drizzle of sesame oil to add a burst of color and flavor.
