Description

Garang Asem Ayam, a dish that celebrates the vibrant, bold flavors of Indonesian cuisine. Enjoy the delightful combination of spice, tang, and creamy coconut goodness.

Ingredients
  • 500 gr wing sticks
  • 5 bilimbi (idk what people call it but its like the mini starfruit)
  • 5 green tomatoes
  • 3 garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 1 stalk of lemongrass
  • 2 lime leaves
  • 10 chilies
  • 200 ml coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp mushroom bouillon (or can be changed with salt)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Water
Instructions
  1. Begin by boiling the wing sticks until they are cooked thoroughly. Once done, set them aside.

  2. Take the garlic, onion, tomatoes, bilimbi, and lemongrass and slice them into fine pieces.

  3. In a pan, pour an oil and add the sliced garlic and onion. Sauté until they release their aromatic essence. Then add the boiled chicken into the mix, stir it until the ingredients are well combined.

  4. Pour a mixture of water and coconut milk into the pan. Stir it well, add the lemongrass, chillies, lime leaves, tomatoes, and bilimbi. To enhance the savory profile, sprinkle in the mushroom bouillon, ensuring a delightful umami depth.

  5. Allow the dish to simmer gently until the liquid reduces, and the flavors seep into the chicken. This slow cooking process ensures that each bite is a symphony of tastes, with the chicken absorbing the essence of the coconut milk, spices, and fresh ingredients.

  6. Once the liquid has reduced and the spices have infused the chicken thoroughly, it's time to serve.
